Cheer Camp

The Stuttgart Junior High School and Varsity cheerleaders along with their coach, Laura Saranie, traveled to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro for NCA cheer camp last week to learn new cheers, chants, dances and techniques.

Four Varsity and four JH cheerleaders tried out for All-American Cheerleader.

Conley Coker and Gracie Herring made the All-American Team. Coker won NCA Top All-American Medal, an individual award given to the highest scoring All-American tryout, and was asked to be on the NCA staff.

Herring received the Pin It Forward Award.

For final competition day, both squads competed in the game day cheer and band dance competitions.

The Junior High Cheerleaders won 1st place in both of these categories and Varsity won 1st place in game day cheer!

SHS cheerleaders and their coach, Laura Saranie, received the most prestigious award, Herkie Team Award.

The Herkie Team Award, named after Lawrence Herkimer, the founder of the NCA and a former SMU cheerleader, is the top award given to a team during the NCA Cheer Camp.

The honor is given to the one team that exemplifies the qualities of leadership, teamwork, values and sportsmanship the entire time they are at camp.

Other awards that both SJHS and SHS Cheerleaders received were the Spirit Stick for maintaining spirit through the entire week of camp, two excellent and two superior ribbons during evaluations, and a bid to the National competition.

SHS also received Stunt S.A.F.E. Award.
