It was an evening of Hollywood glitz and glam as SHS Senior Caroline Bauman was named Miss SHS 2020 and 8th grader Jacie Houghton was crowned Miss SJHS 2020. 2019 Miss SHS Molly Bohanan crowned Bauman and the other finalists, including 1st Runner Up Yuliana Hernandez, 2nd Runner Up Erica Hawkins, 3rd Runner Up Lauren Hord, 4th Runner Up Morgan Ludwig, and Miss Congeniality Maya Lester. 2019 Miss SJHS Lauren Spoon crowned Houghton and the other finalists, including 1st Runner Up Tillie Nall, 2nd Runner Up Madi Bueker, and Miss Congeniality Lanashia Cole.
Bauman is the daughter of Amy and Brandon Bauman. She is a member of the SHS Tennis team, the Lady Ricebird Soccer team, Fellowship of Christian Ricebirds, Thespians, Science Club, National Honor Society, the SHS Varsity Cheer Squad, and Interact. Bauman is extremely involved at SHS as Student Council President. She was selected for the 2019 Homecoming Court and Girls State.
Bauman knows what an honor it is carry on the Miss SHS title. “I am so proud to be a Stuttgart Ricebird and so excited that I get to represent my school in this way,” she said.
Houghton is the daughter Kelly and Bryan Houghton. She is a SJHS Cheerleader, a member of Fellowship of Christian Ricebirds, and part of the gifted and talented program. Houghton will always remember this night. “I was shocked and excited. I am very excited for the experience,” she said.
Merritt Coker and Jaxson Robinson hosted the pageant. Many students showcased their talents, including Cam Shelton, Jackson Brewer, Drew Leder, and Leslie Alexander, who all provided special entertainment throughout the night.
The Student Council, along with its advisor Michele Kerksieck, plans and hosts the pageant each year. Senior Hayden Davis, Student Council Representative, was the chairman of this year’s pageant. Community partners, school staff, SHS clubs, and students make this special event possible.
