Updated Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Letter

Dear Stuttgart School District Families,

Arkansas Department of Education has extended the number “Alternative Methods of Instruction” (AMI) days during the 2019-2020 school year to ten (10). This plan will allow the opportunity for all Stuttgart School District students to be engaged in meaningful learning on days when the superintendent closes school due to exceptional or emergency circumstances such as: inclement weather, a contagious disease outbreak, or other conditions which prevent school from being in session. This will enable us to not make up the missed day at the end of the year.

If school is closed:

Students who have Internet access at home will receive assignments by their teachers’ chosen method based on what they use at school (Bloomz, Remind Me, Google Classroom, Class Dojo, etc...).

Those students without Internet access will receive their assignment packets when AMI is determined.

For each day missed students will have double the days to make up the work. For example: 1 day missed = 2 days to complete the assignment, 2 days missed = 4 days to complete the assignment. Students with additional support needs (ELL, 504, IEP) will have their assignments modified based upon their plan.

To receive credit for the missed day:

Teachers will assess the progress and completion of assignments by grading the work. Students who fail to complete the work assigned for an alternative learning day based upon current lessons will be marked absent for the day and receive a zero for that assignment.

Teacher will:

The teacher will explain their procedures, expectations, and the assignments for AMI days to their students in advance.
